Pilates is a comprehensive system of exercise that improves strength, flexibility, coordination, control, endurance, range of motion, and body awareness. Balance is achieved through strengthening the core, mobilizing the spine, isolating and integrating all parts of the body. Pilates brings attention to the way we sit, stand, and move, empowering us to leave painful patterns behind and to move towards health and well-being. Joseph Pilates originally created this form to heal from his own ailments. He further developed his exercise during WWI to help injured veterans, and eventually moved to New York, where he opened his own studio.
Utilizing the principles of Pilates, we will work within your comfort to achieve a strong core and a strong, flexible spine, healthy and mobile shoulders and hips, and coordination throughout an integrated body. We will work towards your long term goals while also addressing changes you experience on a day to day basis. I respond to you as the session progresses, helping you feel better, stronger, and more energized by the end of each session.
